Unfortunately there's no setting to get new messages via email from the community. The best way to get updates from the site is to subscribe to an RSS reading service like bloglines, or use the RSS reader built in to your browser. Click on the RSS buttons you see around the place and when you view your RSS subscriptions, you'll get a list of the new activity on the site.
